Miami Mayer is a Calgary-based tattoo artist whose work is deeply influenced by American traditional tattooing, jailhouse tattoos, and folk art. His practice showcases self-built rotary tattoo machines, inspired by the ingenuity of jailhouse tattoo culture. Each machine is crafted from collected and found objects, reflecting the resourcefulness of inmates. In addition to tattooing, Miami Mayer creates hand-etched mirrors featuring classic tattoo motifs.

I am honoured to live and work in Treaty 7, the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy, comprised of the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani First Nations; the Tsuut'ina First Nation; and the Stoney Nakoda, including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations. The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III.
